Students are non-player characters located at the Digsite. In the Digsite quest, answers to the Examiner's tests must be obtained from them. Each of them have lost rock samples, which must be found and returned to them in exchange for said answers. The student dressed in pink will eventually ask for an uncut opal on the third test.

Glitch[]
Players who are doing the Digsite (quest) should not talk to the pink shirt student again after giving her an Opal before taking the exam. If you talk to her again you will have to give her another one. As the game will think you have yet to give her one and her give you the answer to the exam.
